Well, guess who crashed this week. My ride in the beautiful sunny spring weather last Sunday just left me with sore legs, but when I made another attempt 3 days later I could hardly lift the saddle off its peg. My muscles had turned into rubber, and I’m still quite exhausted all the while various stress symptoms are racing through my body. What’s up with that?! Doesn’t give me much hope of getting back into some sort of shape nor my clothes; not sure what my strategy should be.

Designing
What fascinates me as a new weaver is not so much the throwing of the shuttle – like knitting is not really the joy of needle clicking.
I love getting ideas. Inspiration from something I’ve seen, a pattern, a whole project, a colour combination, or a story/theme which leads my mind down some winding path. This is the part which keeps me going. “Can I make this?”
Anything new?
Well, I singlehandedly (why am I so stubbornly insisting on wrecking myself?) dismembered our couch, flipped the two sides again since we haven’t yet found a new one with two short ends, and rearranged things to accomodate the tapestry loom, which was rendered useless in the loom room after the beast moved in. My painting station is now a bit less attractive than before, but since the living room is my stoodio more than anything else, it’ll never be pretty anyway. Mind you, before I started attempting to paint again, and spinning, only the dogs ever used the room and the sofa.
Breaking
..in the new loom, the reign of cold and dark, possibly my back!
This is what my fix for not having a second warp beam looks like (the clamps are temporary – I broke the cordless drill. They’re all my personal clamps btw, the big iron ones I inherited from my grandad).
Finally
Took me some time getting the beast ready. It’s much too large for me (I knew that but was determined to be proven wrong), but at least I’m weaving. And if I manage to finish this cloth I can at least play some with more complicated designs until I figure out what to do about the problem. (I’m like a 10 yo trying to drive a truck)
P.S. I need a second warp beam for all those extra warp threads I add as an afterthought, it’s becoming a habit. But of course I can’t have it unless I prove that I’ll be keeping the loom!
