Motherowl asked me if I would host a study group for making nettle yarn. I know some of the bloggers that I follow have already tried this with varying results, but since I like to get my own hands-on failures I’m going through with this project anyway. So I’d love for everyone to chime in, newcomers as well as those who already have the t-shirt. The more info we can gather in one place, the better!

Nettles revisited
This time round I’m not going to dye with them, and I’m not going to drink them either.
A couple of articles in the latest issue of Väv (a Swedish weaving magazine) talked about nettles and their uses as spinning fiber. Traditionally they’re harvested from August (some say midsummer), but one mentioned “before flowering” which they are doing now.
Studio project 12
I realized that while I’ve shown glimpses from my room after finishing, I never officially wrote the last post of our building project. I’m still waiting for one set of shelves for books and weaving gear, but that requires a remodelling of G’s office, so I’ll count that as improvement rather than part of the “done”.
Handmade soap – sæbetest
Nope, I have not fallen down another rabbithole.
Yesterday I received a nice little package in the mail from Uglemor aka “The Herbal Owl” aka “Soaplady“.
I’ll write about them in two installments, today I’ll just show and tell, later when I’ve used them up I’ll tell you how I like them compared to commercial soaps. Normally we use liquid soap, but I’m interested in the non-chemical way as well as the medicinal properties one can combine in different soaps and ointments.
More chaos (studio project 11)
Just as the studio was all lovely and tidy with space to work in, things have been thrown into disarray and corners stacked high with stuff.
And it’s because because because:
So now I have to figure out what to do with this Expedit bookcase, looks like it needs to go back in the house.
Sorry, haven’t been making anything lately to show. I never learned to love that rug and since it was too harsh on my body I cut it off before it reached full size. It can be used to catch shuttles however until I find or make something else. Onwards!
