Nope

Still nothing going on here. It’s pain week again = horisontal me. The cats love it!

It seems there is an overwhelming majority of rapeseed * fields around here this year, but I don’t know if they’ll still bloom when I’m up and about again. Same goes for the peonies, so I’ll have to put my bets on something else. Dandelion seeds will be gone with the wind for sure! All in all, a typical May around here. Fire in the woodstove and all. Tried to alleviate my boredom with a bit of obsessive tool-shopping, but nothing came of it, so you’ll have to take my word for how much fun that was. 😉

* The most commonly used oil here in food preparation I believe. Look! An educational post!

Meanwhile project ideas are piling up, but they’ll just have to wait, won’t they. Behind the laundry, the horse poop and thistles…. Doing things little bit by little bit – eventually something might come of it. It’s always harder to choose which one to go for after a long break, I’m sure I’m not alone in that? I think I’m going to have to put plant dyeing at bay until I get myself sorted and just do the occasional picture thing.

All black

Those little canvasses I bought are a bit too absorbent for my taste, making it difficult to start with a thin, even layer of something. So I wanted to try to gesso some of them first, and then came on the little jar of black gesso which I can’t remember why I bought.

And now I have these black squares and for some reason I’m totally blocked when it comes to working on them! It just feels completely different and I can’t make my brain change into a new gear.

I guess I’ll have to just begin, doing nothing in particular, simply to get over this…

Do you use black backgrounds for specific techniques / effects that I might have fun learning?

I’m still “just” painting, haven’t moved into adding other media/objects so far.

I didn’t scan a black square for you 😉 Here you can see how the paint sucks right into the canvas before I have a chance to blend it in. Which can probably be used for some watercoloury effects (I think).

Sew done

Had a bit more energy today, colder outside (+inside) and windy = I managed to get some of those fabrics done that I threatened to zigzag etc. yesterday. Well, the fun bits anyway, such as the saori jacket, not weaving in ends on my sweater. Most boring task in the world. The vest works great under an oversized, ruined (as in I got paint on it) sweater for keeping me warmer.

A couple of sneak peeks (and pssst – I did paint a teeny bit too! It’s difficult to dive back in, though, as I haven’t been in any kind of flow yet to just pick it up where I left, so I started something new)

Picture wall

Current status on my latest crazy invention: all filled up. As I paint more, I’ll have to find a permanent storage place for older items, probably in a plastic bag in the hayloft where my old painting reside, what’s left of them. Some of them sadly exposed to the dust over the last 12 years.

Or I’ll have that auction I threatened to do. I decided against painting over for now, I thought they would be fun to look at in a few years and see where I’ve been. Unless of course we run out of firewood! XD

What do you think? (I’ve virtually got hair on my chest, if you think it looks silly I can take it) It’s convenient because I can take a peek anytime and perhaps get an idea for the next layer, rather than keeping my wips in a pile.

Lovely garden days

I hope I’m not making anybody miserable showing off our lovely Easter weather, I just had to share my joy that colour is once again abundant outside. We’re having a mixture of warm, quiet days and stormy, grey, rainy ones, but all in all, it’s improving. I feel I lack some inspiration / originality with my photos, I’m going to have to think about that a bit. It’s easy to just click away at all the pretty things, but I’d like to get that little extra something! (well, I just had oatmeal cookies with my tea out there, but that’s not what I meant)
