“Weather” report

This post was initially created in April – edited a month later – and then, and then… I’m feeling like I should have been miles away by now, had I continued to work; so I still need to program a mindset to be accepting of this situation of forced headache breaks etc. As well as get back on the horse with my focus keyword perhaps! (actually, sometimes a break isn’t all that bad, many things tend to work in an ebb and flow motion. Can one possibly sync the inside breaks with the outside ones?!)

All black

Those little canvasses I bought are a bit too absorbent for my taste, making it difficult to start with a thin, even layer of something. So I wanted to try to gesso some of them first, and then came on the little jar of black gesso which I can’t remember why I bought.

And now I have these black squares and for some reason I’m totally blocked when it comes to working on them! It just feels completely different and I can’t make my brain change into a new gear.

I guess I’ll have to just begin, doing nothing in particular, simply to get over this…

Do you use black backgrounds for specific techniques / effects that I might have fun learning?

I’m still “just” painting, haven’t moved into adding other media/objects so far.

I didn’t scan a black square for you 😉 Here you can see how the paint sucks right into the canvas before I have a chance to blend it in. Which can probably be used for some watercoloury effects (I think).

Current status on my latest crazy invention: all filled up. As I paint more, I’ll have to find a permanent storage place for older items, probably in a plastic bag in the hayloft where my old painting reside, what’s left of them. Some of them sadly exposed to the dust over the last 12 years.

Or I’ll have that auction I threatened to do. I decided against painting over for now, I thought they would be fun to look at in a few years and see where I’ve been. Unless of course we run out of firewood! XD

What do you think? (I’ve virtually got hair on my chest, if you think it looks silly I can take it) It’s convenient because I can take a peek anytime and perhaps get an idea for the next layer, rather than keeping my wips in a pile.

Great flower photos

Normally I aim at having 7 links in each of these posts (don’t ask me why), but I’ve either been surfing less (good for me) or my bookmarking skills have declined. I could put in a link to my Amazon wishlist and keep you entertained for hours, but somehow I think that would be a fruitless effort. Reminding me of this quote, which will count as today’s 7th item:

“A person will sometimes devote all his life to the development of one part of his body; the wishbone” – Robert Frost

Off to the big city for an art adventure

Well, actually I’m back already. Went to see an exhibition Friday, of one of my favourite Danish painters, Otto Frello. He’s 90 this year and doesn’t really paint much anymore, so most of the paintings were a repeat from the ones I saw 20 years ago. It was still a joy.

Each painting is a story, sometimes 5 different ones happening at the same time. Such as the two girls in strange clothes, chatting away in an old street. When you begin to study the image you see all sorts of weird creatures under rocks, in the windows of old buildings, Winnie the Pooh and Piglet are having a chat in the background and a hole in the street reveals a gang of prisoners(?) trying to escape. Or the painting “The funny man” where a fat jolly man dances for two disapproving ladies, while underground is a strange computer lab, in the far background is some sort of revolution going on, people are dancing in the nearby hall and through all of it a gigantic crack is threatening to tear both ground and building apart. Fun, strange, whimsical, surreal and so rich in detail you can keep finding new ones forever. Clothing is crazy and detailed, buildings remind me of Gaudi.

There was no ban on photography in there, the paintings are reproduced all over the web, so I hope it’s ok to add a couple here as well:
