Studio project 5

Long time no see – but we’re finally getting somewhere compared to my last update. Sept. 12th the last windows went up, in between rains. In the meantime I’ve been slowly putting up insulation, plastic, boards and lately some of the drywall. This room is going to shine compared to the darkness of before! (and those photos were done on a sunny day + optimized for clear viewing)

I did imagine it would all be finished by now, and no such luck. But eventually. I may even have a bit of a housewarming party… That is, if I can climb the ladder! Some days that’s all it takes to set off a storm of pain, so I can do only small tasks alone, and of course it’s dark now by the time other people are home from their jobs.

Right now I’m just pleased the big saw and lumber piles are gone, next is waiting to get electric sockets put in. Need plasterboard in a couple more locations first. Well, all over of course, then a coat of paint, and some shelves would be nice. Many shelves in fact.. Would be nice to land a little 30K job somehow (DKkr) to eat up my wish list.

(I’m longing to tidy up the mess of tools, but alas, I have trouble bending over to do such things. So I save it for the actual building tasks such as cutting drywall. 10 pcs. with difficult cutouts ahead, the rest are fairly simple apart from getting some hoisted up to the top. But that’s what little brothers are for, right?)

  1. Pia! The studio is looking great…it will be a great large space for you to work in! It is quite big, isn’t it? It is difficult to be patient with the process….yes, of course a big chunk of money to devote to the finishing , always a help. We are at the same stage with studio on this end…..i can see the end nearing, but because we do all the work ourselves( in between everything else!), it can be slow going. Goodness your space will be divine when you are able to set up your looms and spinning wheel…..it may be the last we see of you, I can certainly relate to the possibility of tucking away with all my fiber goodness, never to be seen again! Bravo with all the fine work!

    1. It’s difficult to show the space on camera, a wideangle distorts things and yet can’t show the whole room. It’s 7.5 x 5.3 meters, so 430 sq feet floor + 100 loft storage. Side walls 47″. Right now it’s cold as hell obviously, insulation only works if there is some heat to keep in.

I can’t wait to get started splattering paint on large canvasses, I’ve been leaning in that direction for a while, but with the mad kittens around I won’t even attempt to get my gear out in the living room…

Trying to persuade myself I have a perfect opportunity to do some photoshopping this winter, but my brain keeps wanting to arrange furniture…

  2. I admire your determination and perseverance to keep going with the jobs despite being in pain.

It’s going to be an amazing space! 🙂

    1. I need to keep trying, otherwise how can I go on with anything. And well, I’m certainly stubborn too and not ready to be middle aged.

    1. Certainly a lesson in stress management. I’m enjoying the work though, so even if I could afford to I’m not sure I’d hire help.

  3. Hey Pia.

  4. So glad to see continued progress. A little part of me was dreading that it was all going to have been put on hold until next spring. Awesome that all the work is inside now and that you can continue to pluck away at it.

    1. A little part of me too! And still… I’ll believe it when there is paint on the walls, LOL. Seems like a long way off, right now my SI says I’ve overdone it again. 😉
